Kuala Lumpur Shariah High Court Strikes Out RM500 million Matrimonial Assets Division Claim by Shahnaz Abdul Majid
The Shariah High Court today struck out the claim for matrimonial assets division (harta sepencarian) by Shahnaz Abdul Majid, the former wife of Sarawak business entrepreneur Datuk Seri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib.
Shahnaz had been asked by an earlier Court of Appeal hearing to particularise her original claim of RM300 million. Instead, she raised the quantum by 66 per cent to RM500 million and also added further to her claim.
In disobeying the earlier Court of Appeal decision to particularise, the Shariah High Court today struck out her claim since she had not sought leave from the court to raise and revise the quantum.
Further, the matter had been delayed for more than seven years.
Judge Mohd Foudzi Mokhtar presided in the matter.
Shariah lawyer Datuk Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar appeared for Mahmud while lawyers Mohd Rafie Mohd Shafie and Datuk Akberdin bin Haji Abdul Kader acted for Shahnaz.
Shahnaz is at liberty to file afresh.
