At least one dead, nine injured in under-construction pedestrian bridge collapse near Mid Valley mall
A pedestrian bridge under construction at KL Eco City near Midvalley Megamall collapsed today, killing at least one person.
A traffic spokesman said at least nine construction workers were injured in the 3.30pm incident.
The spokesman said among those injured were four Vietnamese, four Bangladeshis and a Sabahan.
Several other workers are feared trapped underneath the collapsed structure.
“We have yet to ascertain the number of people trapped under the collapsed bridge,” said the spokesman.
Meanwhile, a 25-year old Bangladeshi worker at the site said he was close to the site when the accident happened. He said he was about 100m away when he heard an extremely loud crash from behind.
He turned around and was shocked to see that the pedestrian walkway had fallen.
“I’m worried that there might be further accidents, but I’ve come to work anyway.
I heard that several people are injured. I hope they are safe,” he said.
