All schools closed for the next two days
All schools in the peninsula, except in Kelantan, will be closed on Monday and Tuesday as smoke pollution worsened today, with “very unhealthy” air quality in the Klang Valley and 24 other areas with “unhealthy” levels of pollution.
Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid said ministry officials would monitor the hourly pollution readings before deciding on what to do about schools in Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak, which have clear air or “moderate” levels of pollution.
Mahdzir said the PT3, SPM, STPM and STAM examinations would take place as scheduled, but examinations would be postponed if air quality falls to emergency levels.
Dust masks would be supplied to students sitting for examinations, and officials of the ministry, the state education department and schools are required to take steps to supply the masks.
Teachers, staff and school employees were also not required to go to school, Mahdzir said, but security guards should continue to be on duty to maintain security.
