Jamaluddin left PM’s daughter wedding reception early to attend dinner in KL

The late Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis (JJ) who had attended the wedding of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s daughter in Taman Tasik Sultan Abu Bakar, Pekan had left the reception early to attend a dinner function in Kuala Lumpur.

Bukit Ibam state assemblyman Datuk Wan Kadri Wan Mahussin who was actually with Jamaluddin and five others in the ill-fated helicopter before getting off in near Bandar Tun Razak after the helicopter left Pekan, said the late JJ had another dinner to attend in Kuala Lumpur, so he left the ‘kenduri’ early.

“The helicopter was supposed to have landed in Subang by afternoon,” he told Bernama.

Wan Kadri said JJ who is also Member of Parliament for Rompin had wanted to visit one of his staff whose father had passed away in Bandar Tun Razak.

“However, the plan was abandoned due to bad weather. We also had to cancel another plan to visit JJ’s land which he had wanted to donate to a ‘tahfiz’ centre,” he said.

Wan Kadri said he was dropped off at Kota Bahagia, near Bandar Tun Razak, before the rest continued their journey to Kuala Lumpur.

“I was notified of the mishap by a friend when I was on my way to Muadzam Shah. I was told that the helicopter had not landed in Subang but at the same time reports said a helicopter had crashed at Kampung Sungai Pening, Semenyih.

“I am still in a state of shock since I was in that very same helicopter a few hours ago. I not only lost a fellow colleague but a close friend who was always concerned with the welfare of his friends,” he said.

The helicopter, which was carrying six people crashed in Semenyih near here at 4.55pm yesterday.

The other passengers onboard were pilot Captain Clifford William Fournier; helicopter Operations Assistant Aidana Baizieva; Jamaluddin’s bodyguard Razakan B Seran; Datuk Seri Azlin Alias and Datuk Tan Huat Seang, a businessman from Kedah. –Bernama
