Rafizi Ramli arrested over rally
PKR’s secretary-general is detained at police station after he lodged a police report against 1MDB.
Police turned the tables on Rafizi Ramli when he was arrested instead after lodging a police report on 1MDB at the Dang Wangi police station this evening, Malaysiakini reported.
He was arrested for his part in the March 7 #KitaLawan rally that police said was an illegal gathering because no notice was given to them as was required under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
Lawyer Melissa Sasidaran tweeted, “Now Rafizi has been detained at Dang Wangi right after lodging police report on 1MDB. His statement will be taken regarding Kita Lawan.”
He was detained at about 7pm under Section 143 of the Penal Code and Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act.
Since Saturday’s pro-Anwar rally in Kuala Lumpur, police have hauled in PKR youth leader Saifullah Zulkifl, PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and PKR supreme council member Fariz Musa.
Melissa said Nik Nazmi, arrested three days ago, would be released tonight.
“Nik Nazmi will be released tonight at Dang Wangi. His wife is on the way here. He will be brought to Jinjang (police lock-up) to pick up his things,” she said.
